This is a project aiming to give hope for those who lost their homes in the Eastern Japan disaster by introducing the spirit of agriculture society in our architecture. We decided to submit 2 proposals, irrigation tubes and plating frame.
I am working on the planting frame option.
I planned to mimic the negative phototropism process in plant growing behavior to generate our geometry. By planting several seeds into surface of the mesh tube filled with processed wood debris, the seed would eventually sprout and only the sprouts that exposed to sunlight would grow.
These plant’s roots would also grow and add more mass to the tube along one side, causing a slight bend to the opposite direction of sunlight at each spot. Series of bending spots would accumulate and generate continuous curvatures to global geometry of the tube.
The propagation spacing would also generate different curvatures which allow us to control the overall geometry and form functional space below the structure.
